This is a great and very easy to follow ride up in the alpine country. The downhill would have to be one of the best!
This is a big one. It's pretty much a full days ride and has a HUGE climb. I mean, going from Mirimbah to the top of both Mt Stirling and Mt Buller is a bloody long way!

Park your car at the entry gates to Mt Buller and climb the Stirling Rd. Get into a climbing rhythm, pin your ears back and don't stop 'till you hit the top. Once at the top of Stirling (about an hour or so later) take the Buller track off to the right, which is sign posted. This 4wd track follows the saddle to Mt Buller and has broken many a fit rider. It's not that it's that tough, it's just that you are completely rooted by this stage and the last thing you need is more hills. But that's what you get!

Eventually you'll get to the Buller area. Once in the village, grab something to eat. Quickly. You'll need it by this stage! If you've ridden the Buller area before, you'll know there are countless trails heading off everywhere. The one we're going to take heads off from the bottom of Burnt Hut Spur ski run. Ask anyone on the hill where this is.It's called the Klinsporn Track. At the bottom of the run, take the track that heads off to the left. This track goes all the way to the entry gates where your car is parked, a descent of over 3000 feet. It's a long, technical, and incredible downhill that is every bit as good as anything you'll do anywhere. There are not really any tracks that take off from this trail, so you can't get lost. You'll see the bush change countless times from low scrubby snow gums, mountain ash to sub tropical rainforest. The trail can be rough and not maintained. That means jumping over the odd tree, but mostly it's fine.

You've got to try this one some day. There'll be more reviews from this area as Mt Buller has some of the best fire trail rides anywhere.
