Another great Mt Buller ride, best in summer when it's super hot. And you get to ferret for some cool junk.
It doesn't take the brainpower of Plato to work out that Mt Buller is going to have heaps of great rides in and around the mountain. The following ride has a bit of a climb (like about 15kms) and a really fantastic downhill. Just be prepared to get your feel wet!

Start the ride in the park just past the Buller entry gates in Mirimbah. You've got to ride up the road now - yes, you heard right - up the road basically nearly all the way to the top of Mt Buller. It's actually not that hard, especially if you have a bit of fitness. The climb is pretty gentle the whole way and definitely worth the effort for the views and the ride back down. About 3 Kms from the Horse Hill chair lift you'll see the Mt Buller tip on the left-hand side - it's on a sharp right hand turn. Go in here and head to the back of the tip. There you'll see a 4wd-access track. This is the track you'll take all the way back to your car.

It's a fantastic descent all the way down the valley between Mt Buller and Mt Stirling. It winds down the valley and but for a couple of tracks that take off to the right, (don't take these unless you want to go to the top of Stirling) it's pretty much down hill the whole way. This track has a total of 13 river crossings. Yep - 13! The first few are not too bad, 'cause the Delatite River is just starting, but as you get further down the trail the river will get deeper and more challenging. I suggest you carry your bike rather than ride through - not good for your bike, getting everything drenched. It's fantastic fun, if not a little cold - but after everything numbs you won't feel a thing.

Eventually you'll come out at the bottom - muddy, wet and with a big smile on your face. It takes about 5 hours to do the ride - maybe a bit longer if you take your time. Worth the drive to Mt Buller - but don't forget to bring a towel.
